With swimming now officially the most popular participation sport in the UK* and new national awareness programs such as ‘Learn to Swim’ and ‘Free Swimming’ there’s never been a better time to visit your local pool.

These initiatives have prompted top personal trainer Lucy Wyndham-Read and behavioral psychologist Judi James - resident experts at AXA PPP healthcare’s Nutrition and Fitness website - to compile a series of water-based workouts and motivational exercises, which are designed to help you get the most out of swimming.

Lucy Wyndham-Read recommends swimming as a form of regular physical activity for people of all ages and fitness levels. “Whether you’re an absolute beginner or a fitness fanatic, swimming is an excellent way to tone up, improve your cardiovascular health, lower your blood pressure and leave you feeling fighting fit.”

Judi James adds, “Swimming is naturally enjoyable for most people and if you enjoy something you’re far more likely to stick to it.”

How swimming can help your fitness
Exercise such as swimming can indeed help combat stress and beat the blues, adds Lucy, as it releases endorphins (the body’s natural ‘feel good’ chemicals) into your bloodstream. It is also low impact putting less pressure on the joints unlike exercises such as aerobics and running, making it one of the safest activities you can do. Swimming also tones your entire body while still providing a great workout and being in the water keeps you cool, meaning you can work out for longer.

Expert Swimming tips

Lucy’s pool workouts

- Workout 1 - Add some variety to your swimming by doing one length as fast as you can, then the next two at a moderate pace. Repeat this several times. This is a great way to burn off extra calories.

- Workout 2 - Mix it up by switching strokes after each length. For example, use a combination of breast stroke (great for toning arms and legs), back stroke (great for upper body flexibility) and front crawl (great for working on speed and fitness).

- Workout 3 - Place a float between your knees and swim a length using either front crawl or breast stroke. This is a great way of training and toning your upper body. Then switch, and for the next length extend your arms in front, hold on to the float and power yourself using your legs only. Repeat several times.

- Workout 4 - This is a simple way of toning deep into your abdominal muscles. Using any swimming stroke, pull your belly button up tight to your spine, hold for 10 seconds, then release. Repeat several times.

‘British Swimming’, the national governing body for swimming in the UK says that any swimming that makes you breathe more heavily counts as ‘moderate’ activity. “Even treading water takes effort, so you are working most of the time you’re in the pool.” It adds that 30 minutes of steady-paced lane swimming burns off more than 200 calories.

Set up as part of the government’s ‘Be Active, Be Healthy’ strategy designed to get 2 million people more active by 2012 adults who are 60 or over and under-16’s can now swim for free in over a thousand swimming pools run by almost 300 local councils. Free lessons are also being offered in some areas to help the one in five adults who can’t swim learn.

AXA PPP healthcare’s Nutrition and Fitness website offers information and advice on topical healthy living issues, featuring articles, exercises, recipes and videos from many of the UK’s leading specialists.

Have you ever imagined that the day would come when brown age spots begin to appear? Unfortunately, those ugly spots show up when you’re into the 40s…sooner, though, if you were a Sun Goddess in your younger days. But, back to reality…you have those pesky spots and you want them gone.

Thankfully, a natural skin care product makes eliminating your brown age spots a piece of cake. A skin care product that gets back the skin you once had, feeds it with nourishment and protects it from the sun.

You guessed it, the sun is a major cause of your brown spots. Yes, the sun provides you with vitamin D. However, because of the sun’s UV rays, your pigment producing skin cells are activated and begin making more melanin…hence, the appearance of those blotches.

Don’t fret though, it’s never to late to find out how to eliminate brown age spots. No expensive surgery or toxic chemical procedures. Who wants to use a bleaching cream anyway? All it does is irritate the skin. Besides, bleaching creams contain hydroquinone, the primary ingredient, which has been shown to be a potential carcinogen.

Only healthy, safe, natural ingredients are used to combat the unsightly spots. Clinically tested and proven ingredients found in a natural whitening cream that’s been shown to lighten the color of your skin without irritating or harming it.

After researching numerous substances used in lightening creams, the ingredient best to use for eliminating age spots is called Extrapone Nutgrass.

This is an amazing ingredient, studies show Extrapone Nutgrass extract naturally inhibits your production of melanin by up to 40%. And, gently whitens your skin making it look younger and healthier.

It happened unexpectedly, German scientists were looking to develop an anti-irritant for the skin, however, while testing — its whitening properties were discovered! Not only did it soothe skin, but it also lightened age spots and freckles.

And while dealing with those sun spots, why not use a cream loaded with vitamins to nourish; and, has an active ingredient meant to protect skin against UV rays too? One of my favorite substances is a natural ingredient called phytessence wakame. From a Japanese sea kelp, this natural ingredient is rich in sodium, iron, potassium, calcium and vitamins. It inhibits the activity of hyaluronidase, protects your skin against damage caused by UV rays and maintains your skin’s moisture balance…all to keep it looking firm and healthy.

Now that you know how to eliminate brown age spots naturally, you may be interested in knowing this natural whitening cream also contains natural oils such as jojoba, babassu, and maracuja which soothes and moisturizes your skin leaving it soft and beautiful.

It used to be said that as people gained in years that all they wanted was to age gracefully. These days it is more common to hear that people just flat out do not want to grow old. As technology advances and the medical communities understanding of the aging process deepens, society might be nearing a time when growing old may just be a choice.

There has always been a faction within the community that has been prepared to do whatever was necessary to fight the effects of time on their physical appearance. For many years this has meant basic skin care or potentially even surgery.

Basic skin care has come in a couple of different forms. At home use lotions and potions are, or course, absolutely common place. Over the counter items such as moisturizers and cleansers are part of most every woman’s, not to mention an increasing number of men’s, daily routine. Sun screen should be viewed with equal importance. There may be less to repair in terms of aging and damage to the skin if the negative effects of sun exposure are kept to a minimum.

When not relying on at home maintenance and repair remedies, many people also seek to place the health of their skin the hand of a skin care professional, known as a licensed esthetician. On average, a licensed esthetician has completed between three hundred and perhaps as many as seven hundred fifty hours of specialized training at a school licensed by their local state board of cosmetology. Estheticians master the art of facials, waxing, chemical peels, product selection and usage, and much more.

When basic skin care is not enough, many turn to surgery. From face lifts, eyelid surgeries, liposuction, and more, a plastic or cosmetic surgeon may hold the key through their specialized training and experience to provide significant cosmetic enhancements that may truly help to roll back the hands of time. Wrinkles and lax skin may be a thing of the past after surgery, but going under the knife does always have its drawbacks. Anesthesia, discomfort, and recovery time are common, not to mention the financial impact of electing to participate in such services.

While none of these approaches are necessarily new, there is another option that is gaining prevalence; the medical spa. The medical spa is a virtual hybrid between traditional basic skin care and medically based cosmetic enhancement services. The medical spa, or medspa as they are commonly referred to, has filled the void for many who want a higher degree of results from their visits to their local skin care professional.

The medical spa features treatments and services that are primarily non-invasive, involve no anesthesia, and require no down time. As they bridge the gap between the spa and the doctors office, medical spa clients can achieve a greater degree of results that can help to roll back the years by reducing wrinkles, reversing sun damage, tightening skin, erasing spider veins, reducing cellulite, and more. As these technologies continue to evolve and medical spa treatments become more accessible, in the near future looking older really may just be a choice.

A lot of people have problems absorbing nutrients and with breaking down the food they eat due to problems with their digestive system. This is not an uncommon problem that is more often than not blamed to a low level of stomach acid, or a lack of enzymes that are essential in the breaking down process. The causes are not limited to just these two, they are just the most common.

One way to help improve a problematic digestive system to function more effectively is to slowly increase your intake of nutrients. An organically rich diet is the preferred way to improve your digestion process, but you may need supplements as well. Presently, one of the big benefits of supplements is that you don’t need prescription, let’s hope this doesn’t change. They are very attainable either online or a nearby nutrition store.

Taking supplements with meals is recommended, and even spread them out through your day. At meal time, your body can absorb the nutrients better due to the food stimulating the digestive process. Time released supplements should definitely be taken with food to ensure that the proper amount of nutrients and vitamins are released to reap the benefits.

Water soluble vitamins are the easiest, as they will pass through the body easily and quickly, and should be taken three times a day. On the other hand, vitamins that are fat soluble are best absorbed if they are taken with food that contains fat. You should always take vitamins with meals, as the minerals and nutrients found in food will work with the vitamin supplements and less will be lost through urination.

Some supplements can interfere with others when you absorb them, so it’s important to make sure what you are taking is compatible with other forms of vitamin supplements.

1. Vitamins A, D, and E - Take with meals that contain fat or oil. 2. Vitamin B - Take as soon as you wake up, to get the maximum benefit. Can also be taken with whole grain meal. 3. Vitamin C - Take with with meals and don’t take take too much. 4. Iron - Always take with food, this is essential for absorption. 5. Multi-vitamins - It is best to take with small meal.

Even though you may eat healthy, incorporating supplements helps secure the nutrition your body needs as well. Remember, the digestive process causes your body to work hard, so no matter the level of healthy diet, use some common sense and don’t overdue the quantities. For instance, bananas are good for you, but if you eat a huge number of them at one time, your not going to feel to good. Life can have its surprises which takes our time, which is where supplements can benefit.

There are many different supplements available that you can take, so it’s important to determine what you want to accomplish before purchasing. Do some research, and make sure a particular supplement fits your needs before you decide to purchase it.

There are a lot of people who suffer from a deficiency of one or more vitamins, and being able to purchase vitamin supplements to help overcome many deficiencies is helpful and convenient. The preferable way in obtaining the daily requirement is still the old fashion way, through a healthy diet. Natural vitamin sources should be our mindset, supplemented by supplements. The intake needs of natural vitamin sources may fluctuate during certain periods in our life and may need to be increased and a supplement is our best option. It is important to be aware of the best natural vitamin sources so that a person can incorporate as many of these as possible into their regular diet. * Natural vitamin B1 sources are brewers yeast, whole grains, blackstrap molasses, brown rice, organ meats, egg yolk

Matt and Karen Douglas had only been married for a few years when Matt started exhibiting early symptoms of Huntington’s disease (HD). His symptoms started with small, uncontrolled movements, such as his hands twitching when he didn’t want them to; but the movements soon worsened and became so severe that Matt was unable to drive his car.

HD is an inherited neurodegenerative disease that over time results in uncontrolled movements, emotional changes and mental deterioration. In the United States, about 25,000 people have HD. Each child of a parent with the disease has a 50 percent chance of inheriting the gene and ultimately developing the disease. This means at least 150,000 others are at risk of developing the disease, along with thousands of their relatives.

The most common, and perhaps most devastating symptom of HD is chorea. Chorea is characterized by jerky, involuntary movements throughout the body, often appearing as writhing, twisting and turning in a constant, uncontrollable dance-like motion. As chorea progresses, the jerk-like movements worsen and make it difficult for patients to carry out many activities associated with daily living.

“Patients can lose the ability to button a shirt, drink a glass of water, or even sit in a chair without falling off,” says Dr. Amy Colcher, a neurologist at Pennsylvania Hospital. “As the disease progresses, the danger for falls and other injuries increases greatly.”

Currently, there is no cure for HD and the disease is ultimately fatal. However, in 2008, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved Xenazine (tetrabenazine) to treat chorea associated with Huntington’s disease, making this the first product ever approved for a symptom of HD. “Xenazine is not a cure for HD, but as a physician, I am grateful for this medical milestone and that we now have an option to potentially help patients better manage the uncontrolled movements they experience as a result of the disease,” says Colcher.

Serious side effects reported with the use of Xenazine include depression and suicidal thoughts and actions. Xenazine should not be used in patients who are actively suicidal or in patients with untreated depression. Concerns about the risk of suicide are heightened in all patients with HD.

For Matt and Karen Douglas from Delaware, Xenazine offers new hope in managing his chorea associated with HD.

“Before Xenazine, chorea used to limit Matt’s life in so many ways,” says Karen. “Since Matt started on Xenazine as part of a clinical trial almost four years ago, we have been able to help control his movements. He will continue experiencing chorea, but every bit of his independence helps extend our quality of life as a family.”

“The availability of Xenazine in the United States represents a significant development for the patients, families and caregivers affected by HD,” says Louise Vetter, chief executive officer of the Huntington’s Disease Society of America. “HDSA and the scientific community continue to work towards a cure for HD, and while we do, we are working to educate as many people as possible about the disease, which is why we have an extensive network of local chapters across the country that are working tirelessly to raise awareness for this devastating disease and the exciting advancements that are being made to help manage it.”

May is National HD Awareness Month — if you are interested in learning more about HD, its symptoms, and local awareness events in your community, visit www.hdsa.org. For more than 40 years, HDSA has been supporting patients with HD and their family members by providing vital support, information and educational services to improve the lives of those affected by HD. For full Prescribing Information including Boxed Warning for Xenazine, visit www.xenazineusa.com.

Indications and Usage:
Xenazine is a medicine that is used to treat the involuntary movements (chorea) of Huntington’s disease. Xenazine does not cure the cause of the involuntary movements, and it does not treat other symptoms of Huntington’s disease, such as problems with thinking or emotions. It is not known whether Xenazine is safe and effective in children.

Important Safety Information:

* Xenazine can increase the chance of depression, suicidal thoughts or suicidal actions in some patients.

* You should not start taking Xenazine if you are depressed (have untreated depression or depression that is not well controlled by medicine) or have suicidal thoughts.

* Pay close attention to any changes, especially sudden changes, in mood, behaviors, thoughts or feelings. This is especially important when Xenazine is started and when the dose is changed.

Do not take Xenazine if you have liver problems or are taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors or reserpine. At least 20 days should pass after stopping reserpine before starting Xenazine. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, breast-feeding or have breast cancer.

The need for therapy should be evaluated on an ongoing basis with your doctor. The dose of Xenazine should be adjusted slowly over several weeks for a dose that is appropriate for you. If your doctor thinks you need to take more than 50 mg of Xenazine each day, you will need to have a blood test to see if Xenazine is safe for you.

Neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS), restlessness, agitation, parkinsonism (slight shaking, body stiffness, trouble moving or keeping your balance), trouble swallowing, dizziness, and irregular heartbeat have also been reported with use of Xenazine. Do not use Xenazine with drugs known to cause irregular heart beat. Side effects associated with Xenazine, such as irregular heartbeat, NMS, and parkinsonism, may be increased if used together with drugs called dopamine antagonists. Uncontrolled movements called tardive dyskinesia (TD) may develop in patients treated with Xenazine. It is possible that the TD will not go away.

Xenazine may cause sleepiness or drowsiness, and may affect the ability to drive or use dangerous machinery. Some side effects, such as depression, tiredness, trouble sleeping, sleepiness/drowsiness, parkinsonism, and restlessness, may be dose-dependent. If the side effects don’t stop or lessen, your doctor should consider lowering the dose or stopping your Xenazine. The most commonly reported side effects in studies with Xenazine were sleepiness/drowsiness, tiredness, trouble sleeping, depression, restlessness, anxiety and nausea.

Having sweaty armpits is a socially crippling problem. It is extremely embarrassing and sufferers could avoid moving around with other people because of this and begin to keep mostly to themselves. The first thing to do to stop this condition is to understand that it is a problem, and can be cured.

This condition is by no means exclusive. About one person in every hundred in the population suffers from this condition. Scientifically, this condition is known as ‘hyperhidrosis’.

Are there any causes?

It has been found that there are two major types of hyperhidrosis: primary and secondary hyperhidrosis. Primary hyperhidrosis is a hereditary condition that is passed on genetically and generally shows itself around adolescence. Secondary hyperhidrosis on the other hand can develop at any age.

However, while primary hyperhidrosis is generally accepted as having a genetic cause, the real specific cause is yet unknown. Secondary hyperhidrosis, on the other hand, occurs mainly due to a malfunction in the victim’s thyroid or pituitary glands. It might also have other causes including tumours and diabetes.

Is there a Cure?

However, sufferers need not despair as there is hope yet. There are several cures that can limit, and in certain cases almost remove completely all symptoms. Treatments could involve surgery, drugs or even natural remedies.

Surgery is suggested mainly in extreme cases. It generally deals with removing the nerves that trigger the sweat glands. This process, however, has it’s own risks. Sweat is essential for the skin in order for it to remain uncracked. Lack of sweat could also stop the skin being supple and cause it to heat up. Cutting of the nerves that are responsible for this could cause larger problems in the future.

Shaving the regions that are affected by excessive sweating would also help. Shaved underarms would greatly reduce the chances of sweating armpits. Hair in such regions would increase the chances of sweat decomposing due to yeast and other bacterial actions. However, this is not a cure by itself. It will, however, reduce the chances of bromhidrosis. It will not, however cure the problem of sweaty armpits completely.
Deodorants are generally the primary defence line for most individuals. Antiperspirant deodorants that are available in the market can reduce the chances of sweaty armpits. However, this method is not as effective on other parts of the body that are exposed.

Chemical treatments exist for this condition that are varied and effective. Generally, for the palms, genital regions and groin, this type of treatment is suggested. For such regions, a solution of aluminium chloride is applied using a plastic film. This film might cause irritation and if this occurs, the solution can be used itself. Generally, this is applied once every day, but in severe cases, twice a day can be allowed. By using this method, many sufferers have had a substantial amount of relief within the span of a week. Other solutions that can be used include that of methenamine.

Drug treatments are also preferred, as it is much easier to ingest some pills than using patches and other chemicals. The most popular of these drugs are propantheline and phenoxybenzamine. However, keep in mind that these drugs could have side effects just like all other medication and it would be a good idea to consult a medical practitioner before using them. It would be sad to cure oneself of sweaty armpits only to find a bad side-effect because of the cure.

Natural remedies are often thought to be less effective than chemical ones. This, however, is not true. Sweaty armpits can just as well be cured by natural treatments as by chemical ones. And natural treatments have the added advantage of having little or no chance of side effects.

Information on Sweaty Armpits is available here. Visit this blog to stop sweaty armpits today.

If you’ve been hearing more lately about a raw food diet and wondering what it is or if it’s right for you, here are a few reasons why you should consider it.

First of all I went on a raw food diet more than nine years ago after a breast cancer diagnosis. I had multiple ailments including fibromyalgia, arthritis, GERD, irritable bowel syndrome, chronic sinus infections, insomnia, headaches, pain, aching muscles and joints, celiac disease, canker sores, chronic gum infections and much more. In my desire to cure myself and feel better, I started eating raw foods. I soon started eating 100% raw foods and I had never felt better. I turned down chemo, radiation, surgery, etc. But here are some reasons for you to consider.

1. Raw foods, also called living foods, have thousand of phytonutrients including vitamins, minerals, trace minerals, antioxidants and much more and thousands that haven’t been identified yet. These nutrients are virtually non-existent in cooked foods. Heating food to 108 degrees or more will surely kill or damage the fragile nutrients and damage enzymes. Pasteurization alone will harm many of the vital nutrients.

2. Many people besides me report they have tons of energy, lose weight and need less sleep. I know I’m bursting with energy all day long and well into the evening. I only need five hours of sleep a night. Prior to eating raw foods I slept nine hours a night.

3. Many people besides me have reported they no longer suffer from a variety of ailments. Many of them including myself never get sick. I haven’t had a cold or flu since I started eating raw foods.

4. I don’t take any medications or drugs and have no need for them. I haven’t had any meds since before I started on my raw food diet. Others report the same experience. Because I no longer suffer from diseases and ailments there is no need for drugs. Many report they have reversed their type 2 diabetes and have done so in the first month and no longer take diabetes medications.

5. Depression seems to disappear and energy abounds. The fact that the body is now loaded with missing nutrients, there is no malnutrition which may be partly responsible for mood changes, depression and various emotional ailments. Coping abilities improve. One is better able to cope with the daily stresses that are a natural part of living.

So if you’re thinking about improving your health and are sick and tired of being sick and tired or find you’re taking on new health problems, think about what has happened to me and try eating predominately raw foods for a month or so and see how you feel. No you don’t have to give up everything right away if you don’t want to. Replace what you can and stop eating anything that you’re indifferent about and you know is not healthy. You can do it. No supplements to buy either - just a natural approach - eating raw foods. To this day I still feel fantastic every day and you can do it to.

As the body ages, fat begins to find its way to places not so much of our choosing. If you’ve been battling problem fat areas on your hips, stomach or even back, the good news is that yes, it is possible to make those problem spots go away.

Here are three basic steps to saying goodbye to troublesome bulges:

Lose weight if necessary: Find out from your doctor how close you are to your ideal weight and whether you’re carrying excess fat. Using the body mass index (BMI) provides a reliable indication of both. If you do find that you need to lose fat, a recent two-year study suggests focusing on a low-carb diet where you derive the bulk of your fat from healthy vegetable and fish sources (as opposed to the Atkins-style bacon-on-lettuce routine) will put you squarely on the road to reduction. And, as an added benefit, as you lose fat throughout your body, including from your stomach and around your organs, you reduce your risk for all sorts of nasties ranging from heart disease to diabetes. You know you can’t go wrong improving your diet, and you’ll lay the groundwork for fixing those problem areas.

Get fit: You can do a thousand or even a million sit-ups and it’s not likely to reduce the amount of fat in your belly. The reason? Your abdominal muscles and the belly fat sitting above them have nothing to do with each other. That being said, if you focus on an overall fitness and toning program with your doctor’s blessing of course you’re likely to tone up problem areas along with the rest of your body. Make sure your routine includes plenty of aerobic exercise, at the very least three times per week at 20 minutes per session (preferably more). Since getting in shape is great for your skin, mood and health, you can’t help but come out a winner… even if you still need help with the fatty bulges.

A safe alternative: Once you’re in shape and within 15 pounds of your ideal weight, if you still have an annoying pair of saddle bags or a poochy belly, you might be feeling pretty frustrated. Sadly, where we store our fat is genetically determined, and what our genetics think is a good idea doesn’t always correspond to how we want to look in swimwear. In short, some of us get lucky and for the rest of us, there’s SmartLipo laser assisted liposuction. This treatment works to reduce local fat stores and is a minimally invasive procedure with little or no recovery time. SmartLipo uses a laser that zaps fat and tightens the overlying skin. This procedure is extremely effective removing the trouble spots that weight loss and fitness routines haven’t managed to touch.

Having problem spots can actually work as a call to action. Those areas carry with them the opportunity to improve your appearance and your overall health. You’ll get healthy and, with a little help from cosmetic dermatology procedures, you can achieve the smooth, svelte look you’ve been wanting. With that in mind, as you move from milepost bulge to milepost bikini, make sure you have some fun!

Let’s imagine that you have been asking, “How to get rid of man-boobs?” or “How do I lose my chest-flab?” Fitness experts will tell you that the real question behind your questions is: “How can I lose some excess fat from my upper body?”

Excess flab around the chest, also called ‘man boobs’, ‘moobs’ or (to give it its fancy title) ‘gynecomastia’ is a sure sign that the rest of your body is suffering from an excess of fatty tissue too – including your vital internal organs (heart, liver, etc).

Hence, the real question is also: if you want to live long and healthy, why would you stop at knowing how to get rid of man boobs? What about the rest of you?

Moobs are a bad omen

It’s easy with a tape-measure and a pair of scales to show that men with ‘moobs’ are also excessively chubby round their thighs or buttocks. Usually, man boobs are also a sign that the abdomen, back, arms, and face are flabby or fat. More serious as a health risk are the internal fat deposits denoted by the chest-fat that you can see.

So, whether you happen to be more concerned about your physical appearance or your medium- and long-term health, it’s time to start work on getting rid of the man-boobs.

How?

Here’s the thing! If you could get rid of just your man boobs and leave the rest of your body unchanged, nothing important would really have changed. But what if you could get rid of fat from all over the body instead?

What if you learned that, actually, there is no sure way of getting rid of man boobs without getting rid of that all-over body fat?

The fact is, there is no exercise regime or diet on earth that can remove fat from one specific area of the body. You can’t get rid of one lot of excess flab without getting rid of the others. There is no such thing as ‘spot-targeting’ fat except on the operating table.

So … getting rid of man-boobs means losing weight, full stop.

The only way to do that is by the old tried and trusted diet and exercise regime which will get you into good shape all over. The ‘magic diet supplements’ that promise to drop pounds overnight should be viewed with caution. Many are verging on outright scams and will do nothing for your health or your weight-loss program.

However, there are plenty of natural supplements on the market now such as acai-berry extracts, combined products such as Acai Burn or other boosters which can help speed up your metabolism, satisfy hunger and lightly suppress the appetite between meals.

Do your research and you’ll find plenty of diets which are healthy and practical and which will suit your lifestyle. Choose one which you can stick to without too much inconvenience. Check out the supplements and go with something that will provide a balance of nutrients as well as helping speed up the weight loss.

There have been many very good reports about the ‘Acai Burn’ program so if you want to be modish about losing your man boobs, you could give that one a go.

(ARA) – With economic-related stress levels running high, many Americans may be experiencing growing anxiety that can wreak havoc on overall health and well-being. It’s important to remember that during high-stress times, it’s especially crucial to stay healthy. The heart is an excellent place to start, since the body’s life-giving blood supply starts here.

Here are three tips that can help promote heart health:

1) Incorporate omega-3s into your diet:

Many of us know that omega-3 fatty acids are important for heart health and have decided to supplement our diets with fish oil in order to benefit from these omega-3s. Now there’s another source for omega-3s that is growing in popularity thanks to its small size, making it easier to take than bulky fish oil softgels and also three times more powerful for supporting cardiovascular health. It’s krill oil and it is supplied from krill, tiny shrimp-like crustaceans that inhabit the cold ocean areas of the world. Like fish oil, krill oil contains essential omega-3 fatty acids. However, the omega-3s in krill oil are linked together in a different form — a more soluble structure that is easily absorbed by our bodies. Just one krill oil softgel, about the size of a coffee bean, supports a key marker of cardiovascular health better than three large fish oil softgels, without the fishy smell or aftertaste.

MegaRed Omega-3 Krill Oil from Schiff is shown to be safe and effective in clinical trials. Krill oil promotes cardiovascular health and maintains cholesterol levels within the normal range. The antioxidant astaxanthin found in krill oil, which gives it its red color, neutralizes free radicals — harmful metabolic by-products that damage cells and tissues throughout the body. Visit www.schiffmegared.com or call (800) 526-6251 to learn more.

2) Develop a heart-healthy eating plan for you and your family.

Eating heart-healthy doesn’t have to mean bland foods that don’t satisfy. Try new recipes and think creatively with food. Here are some guidelines:

Meat: Choose lean meats to help cut down on saturated and trans fat. Poultry without the skin, and red meat and pork labeled ‘loin’ and ’round’ usually have less fat. Grill, bake and broil instead of frying. Jazz up meat with different herbs and spices.

Dairy: Whole-fat dairy products are a thing of the past. Look for low-fat versions of milk, butter, yogurt and cheese that are often just as tasty. If you’re finding that switching is hard, do it gradually. For example, mix whole milk with 1 percent until your taste buds adjust.

Snacks: Snacks aren’t bad if you choose the right ones. Avoid options that contain trans fat. High-sodium and high-sugar snacks are not good choices either. Instead, try real fruit or cut-up vegetables.

3) Get moving for a happy heart.

Now that you’re eating right and getting your omega-3s and antioxidants with the krill oil supplement you’re taking, the final step is to incorporate physical activity into your daily life. If you’re able to attend a gym, get a partner involved and encourage each other. If you don’t visit a gym, try working out at home in front of the TV or go outside and do some yard work.

Help your whole family get heart healthy by planning a fun activity together each week. Go for a nature walk, take a bike ride, bring the dog to a park, take family dance lessons or try a new sport. New healthy activities are a great way to stay connected to your family or your significant other and help everyone involved decrease stress levels.

By following these three simple tips — take omega-3 rich krill oil, follow a heart-healthy eating plan and get moving — you’ll celebrate a healthy heart for many years to come.
